I have a question.. is there a difference visually between a mossinite and a diamond? What about a lab created diamond and a natural one? Under a loop can anyone tell the difference between the three? — Anonymous
Here’s what I found out
- Moissanite actually has more ‘fire’ than a diamond. Moissanite dispersion= 0.104. Diamond dispersion= 0.044
- Moissanite is sparklier. Moissanite is 2.65 on the refraction index and diamonds are 2.42
- Moissanites frequently have a little tinge of some sort meaning they’re never ‘pure’ white
- Lab created diamonds look identical to diamonds because they are. Actual quote from BrilliantEarth “lab created diamonds are physically optically, and chemically indistinguishable from our natural diamonds” (note: ‘lab created’ and ‘simulated diamonds’ like CZ are NOT the same thing)
- Under a loupe you’d be able to see the difference between moissanite and a diamond because moissanite isn’t meant to be a copy of a diamond, it just happens to be a colourless stone that many use in place of a diamond
- You can’t tell the difference between a lab created diamond and a natural diamond
I’ll post some pictures of moissanite rings in natural light so you can compare for yourself as well :)
